1. Datalogger SK-L200 II Series
1-1. About the main unit specifications
Q1: Can we get the calibration with the temperature and humidity traceability certificate?
A1: Yes. Our service to customers includes providing the temperature and humidity standards. If you have a calibration request, please contact the store where you bought the instrument or our service network.
Q2: The measuring range is set to -10°C to 60°C. What is the heat resistance of the case?
A2: The case can endure heat of up to 80°C or as low as -20°C. If used outside the measuring range, the error code of Hi or Lo appears on the LCD. Be sure to use the instrument within the range of -10 to 60°C, regardless of the upper/lower temperature limit set for the case.
Q3: We are planning to use the instrument to measure the temperature of products during transport by truck. Will engine noise or continuous vibration cause a problem?
A3: If the truck travels on a normal road, the engine noise or the vibration will not be a problem. However, precaution should be taken against accidental large vibration that could damage the instrument.
Q4: How can we protect the instrument from malfunctioning due to static electricity or electrical noise?
A4: Electrical noise can be partly eliminated by placing the main body of the instrument in a metal case or wrapping it with aluminum foil. Before using the instrument in a place for the first time, be sure to check the noise level, as this will differ according to the environment.
Q5: The instrument is going to be used for continuous data logging. How long does the battery last?
A5: The battery lasts approximately 500 hours in measuring mode. This instrument can log 8100 readings at any logging interval (LCD off). For example, if the logging is set to 90 minutes, approximately 506 days (LCD off) of continuous logging is possible (assuming the instrument has two new alkaline batteries and is used at room temperature).
Q6: Does the battery life differ depending on the logging interval?
A6: Yes. Battery power is consumed faster with a shorter logging interval. The data below are our estimates assuming room temperature, normal humidity, two new alkaline batteries, and the LCD turned off. Note that the data is not guaranteed for every battery to be used, as the battery capacity differs depending on the manufacturer or environment. For a long term recording, use new batteries.
Interval Time for 8100 data Number of full data Operating time
1 sec. 2.25 hours Approx. 450 times 1,014 hours
10 sec. 22.5 hours Approx.227 times 5,113 hours
1 min. 135 hours (5.63 days) Approx.122 times 16,563 hours
10 min. 56.25 days Approx.20 times 27,749 hours
60 min. 337.5 days Approx.3 times 29,600 hours
Q7: What will happen to the data if the LCD fails during logging?
A7: The data will not be affected, but the LCD may malfunction and not properly display the operation status including the communication status, depending on the degree of LCD failure. In the worst case, data collection may be affected.
Q8: Is data collection affected if there is a machine with a high-voltage cable nearby?
A8: The instrument is hardly affected by 200-VAC cables. However, the instrument should be used as far from suspected noise sources as possible to avoid potential problems.
Q9: What will happen to the measurement data if the instrument is forcibly reset due to condensation found on the logger case during logging?
A9: This instrument should log measurement data successfully unless condensation builds up inside the indicator circuit. However, we cannot guarantee this.
Q10: I lost the cap for the communication port. What will happen to the instrument if it is used in a very dusty place without the cap?
A10: There may be a loose contact in the data signal line. The sign of trouble is failure to communicate with the computer. (The message "Connection is incorrect" appears when the connection is checked.)
Q11: Please explain the data backup of the indicator.
A11: The data remains stored even when the batteries are taken out. The data can be erased by operating the logger key or operating the "Erase" command from the computer. Be sure to download the data before erasing or starting a new measurement.
Q12: While in the logging mode, the bars and "F" are lit and the power was turned off. Why?
A12: The power of the unit is turned off to save battery power when the recorded data reaches 8100 loggings or the set end-point. When the logged data is collected from the instrument, press the POWER key to turn on the unit and then connect the unit to the computer to download the data.
Q13: Is it possible to measure a temperature exceeding 105°C?
A13: A sensor (SK-LTII-7 or SK-LTII-8) that is especially designed for high temperature is available. Please use either of them according to your propose. When using, be sure to observe the operating environment (-10 to 60°C, no condensation). Also, note that the SK-LTII-2 cannot be used for such purposes if its cable is exposed to high temperature that exceeds the temperature upper limit.
Q14: What does "Hi" on the LCD mean?
A14: It appears if the humidity falls outside the display range (10 to 99% RH).
Q15: Can I retrieve erased data from the indicator?
A15: No, there is no way to retrieve erased data. Be sure to download the data before erasing or starting a new measurement.
Q16: Can I see the measurement data while logging?
A16: Yes. Press the CALL/OUT key to view the data. Note that if the measurement data is displayed during logging, the battery is consumed faster and thus logging may be terminated halfway. If this happens, such halfway recorded data cannot be downloaded. To download, you must end recording.
Q17: What is the indicator display accuracy?
A17: It is ±(0.1 + 1 digit)°C.
Q18: How does the display accuracy change with changes in the indicator's ambient temperature?
A18: It is ±0.5°C (resolution: 0.1°C) ±1 digit (resolution: 1°C) at the operating range for the indicator (-10 to 60°C).
Total accuracy (display value) = sensor accuracy + indicator accuracy (influence of ambient temp.)
Q19: Why does the logging stop when an "Er" code is displayed?
A19: This is to protect the data recorded. When an error has occurred in the sensor, the indicator side is also affected. For this reason, recording is terminated and communication with the memory is cut off to protect the system.
Note: The "Er" code is also displayed if the sensor probe is disconnected from the indicator.
Q20: Can I use a USB connection with a USB to RS-232C serial converter cable?
A20: No. This instrument uses a unique data format designed by us. If such converter cable is used, proper communication cannot be assured.
Q21: Can I extend the USB cable length by connecting another USB cable?
A21: We guarantee successful communication only when the USB cable (1.5 meters) that comes with the instrument is used.
Q22: What type of connector is used for the communication cable?
A22: Computer side port: A plug
Indicator side port: Mini B plug*
*: Standard USB connector
Q23: Is it possible to save the data recorded in the indicator onto a commercially available external USB memory?
A23: No. The data cannot be directly downloaded to external USB memory. This instrument transfers data by the command received from the computer. The logged data should be downloaded to the computer and saved there.
Q24: Is it possible for a computer to perform multiple real-time communications?
A24: No. One computer can communicate with only one Datalogger.
Q25: The sensor probe accuracy is mentioned on the Test Result Report; what is the accuracy when it is connected to the indicator?
A25: The indicator and the sensor probe have compatible accuracy. For the accuracy of this Datalogger, it should be considered as "the total accuracy". The total accuracy consists of the "display accuracy of the indicator" inclusive of the compatible accuracy and the "accuracy of the sensor probe".
Q26: The instrument was being used outdoors, and it turned off without my turning it off. Why?
A26: It was probably shut down because the indicator shorted due to condensation. Since the indicator is not waterproof, it is highly recommended not to use it in a place subject to condensation or waterdrops.
What will happen if condensation forms on the sensor during logging (error sate is obtained):
(1) L200 series Datalogger : Logging continues.
(2) L200TII : Logging ends and "Er" appears.
(3) L200THIIα : Logging continues.
Q27: Is it possible to use this instrument by placing the sensor in an incubator?
A27: No. It must not be used in an environment subject to cultured germs or bacteria. If it is used in such a place, the humidity sensing membrane will be damaged, resulting in measurement errors.
Q28: Is it possible to use the indicator in an atmosphere with ambient conditions that are not room temperature and humidity? For example: low temperature of 5°C, high temperature of 40°C, high humidity of 75% RH.
A28: Yes. You can use it, but be careful not to allow condensation to form. If it does, the unit may malfunction. Note that regular maintenance should be performed if the instrument is used in such a severe environment.
Q29: Is it possible to use the instrument in a dusty environment?
A29: This instrument is not dust-proof, so we cannot guarantee the product if it is used in such an environment.
Q30: Is it possible to use the instrument by installing the indicator on a wall with magnet? What about the influence of the magnet?
A30: Avoid using the instrument with a strong magnet that can secure the indicator to the wall. Doing so may affect the operation of the unit.
Q31: Is it possible to use the instrument in a pressurized or decompressed environment?
A31: It is possible, but the accuracy cannot be assured. The instrument has been tested by using a humidity generator of approx. 1 bar (1013 hPa). The accuracy of the instrument is assured when it is used under the pressure of 1 bar (1013 hPa).
